From the album Quicksand
This is the title track to Andrew’s debut album. Usually, he spends months and sometimes years sitting on a song until it slowly finishes itself. However, this song was written in just a few hours on the backyard porch of his host’s house in Edmonton and performed live the next day for the first time at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival 2012.
This piece is about seizing the opportunities with which we are presented. The metaphorical imagery lies in the aftermath of missing such opportunities. When you try to relive incomplete moments, most of the time, circumstances just get worse and it's like you're sinking in quicksand.
The improvised bass and violin section was a decision Andrew made out of sheer joy and inspiration just after tracking the guitar section; special thanks to Chris Creglia and Jennifer Melvin.
